Established in 1993, the Biebrza National Park is the largest national park in Poland, sprawling across nearly 600,000 square kilometres and protecting the Biebrza river valley, one of the largest wetlands in Europe.
The Biebrza National Park has a very rich and diverse fauna and flora. Almost one quarter of the park’s area is covered by forests, dominated by birch, alder and pine. The park is home to 270 bird species, which is 70% of the total number of avian species in Poland. The Biebrza river valley is also the largest elk refuge in Poland. Other local species include wolves, beavers and otters. The wetlands of the Biebrza river valley are known across Europe as an important nesting, foraging and transit site for hundreds of thousands of water birds, and numerous birds of prey, such as great snipe, spotted crake, greater spotted eagle, white-winged tern and corn crake.
Please note that you need to purchase a ticket to enter the Biebrza National Park.
